Andrew Carr

Professor Andrew Carr DSc FRCS FMedSci is a clinical scientist and the Nuffield Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Oxford where he directs the Botnar Research Centre, one of the world’s leading musculoskeletal disease research Institutes. He has focussed his research on the development and evaluation of medical devices and technologies, including joint replacements, minimally invasive surgery and tissue engineering scaffolds. He has held senior leadership positions in the University, NHS and charity sectors in the UK and has had advisory roles at a number of European Universities and Research Councils. He graduated from Bristol University in 1982 where he was Captain of Boats. His wife, a consultant paediatrician, is also an alumna of Bristol University and they have four children, two of whom have been Bristol students.
