Tejal Desai currently serves as the Sorensen Family Dean of Engineering at Brown University since September 2022. Desai has extensive experience in academia, holding the position of Professor at UCSF since July 2005, where Desai also directs the Health Innovation Via Engineering Initiative (HIVE) and serves as Chair. Prior roles include Professor in Residence at the University of California, Berkeley from September 2019 to September 2022, and Associate Professor at Boston University from July 2001 to July 2005. Desai began an academic career as an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois Chicago from September 1998 to June 2001. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering from both the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, San Francisco, obtained between 1994 and 1998, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering from Brown University, completed in 1994.
