Alan Dorsey

Alan Dorsey is a distinguished scientist and educator currently serving as a Professor of Physics and Associate Chief Information Officer for Research at The University of Georgia since July 2012. With experience as Dean of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences from 2012 to 2023, Alan Dorsey has a strong commitment to fostering innovation in research and enhancing educational access in STEM fields. Research focuses on theoretical physics, specifically on novel phases of matter under extreme conditions. Prior roles include Associate Dean and Professor at the University of Florida and Professor at the University of Virginia, along with an earlier position as an IBM Postdoctoral Fellow at Cornell University. Alan Dorsey obtained a PhD in Physics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics from Cornell University.
