Colin Shipp

Colin joined the University in March 2023, moving from the University of Plymouth where he was HR Director for eight years.

Colin is Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD) and has a BA (Hons) in Behaviour in Organisations from Lancaster University. He has experience in the public and private sector, having worked for eight years for KPMG, most recently as Head of HR, and at Royal Mail for 16 years, before moving to the Higher Education sector.

Colin is a values-based leader with significant leadership experience in staff engagement, culture change, reward, performance development, employee relations, equality, diversity and inclusion, and health, safety and wellbeing.

At Sussex, as HR Director and a member of the University Executive Group, Colin is responsible for strategic and operational HR management, leading the HR Division to deliver an agile and responsive service. He and his team are leading the delivery of the People Strategy, in support of the University’s strategic goals and objectives.
