Markku Purmonen

Markku Purmonen has over 20 years of work experience in various leadership roles. Markku started their career at Accenture, where they served as a Managing Consultant, managing global projects in business model and process design. Markku specialized in finance and supply chain, leading international teams and delivering projects for large corporations. In 2011, they joined UPM - The Biofore Company as the Head of Finance and Business Controlling for UPM Energy, responsible for financial analysis and the design of a new business controlling function. Markku then progressed to become the Director of Strategy and Sustainability at UPM Biofuels and later took on the role of Director, Value Chain, at UPM Biofuels Growth. In their current position as Vice President, Strategy, UPM Biorefining, they are responsible for the strategy and growth roadmap, market intelligence, and novel feedstocks for UPM Biorefining, with a focus on biofuels and biochemicals. Markku also has P&L responsibilities for UPM's regenerative agriculture and forestry business. Overall, Markku has a proven track record in strategy development, market intelligence, and business growth in the biofuels and renewable energy industries.

Markku Purmonen received their Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management, General from Helsingin kauppakorkeakoulu in 2002. Markku then went on to pursue a Master's degree, MSc (Econ) in Information systems science from the same institution, completing it in 2008. In 2001, Markku participated in a student exchange program at HEC Montréal, where they studied Business Administration and Management. Additionally, they completed a course in Information Technology Program at Helsingin kauppakorkeakoulu in 2003.
