Javier A. Muniz, MD, has extensive experience in psychiatry and health science, currently serving as Supervisory General Health Scientist for Controlled Substances Initiatives at the FDA since March 2014, after holding various prominent roles within the agency including Associate Director for Therapeutic Review. Concurrently, Javier has served as a Medical Officer with the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service since December 2008. Prior military experience includes Chief of Psychiatry at the Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center and various roles in the United States Air Force. Javier has also contributed to academia as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Educational background includes a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and earlier studies at Universidad Central del Caribe, Jefferson Health, and Universidad de Puerto Rico.
