Job description

The Construction Project Engineer (CPE) (Asset Excellence) principal responsibility is to lead project engineering activities of the pre-construction and construction phase of Ventient Energy’s pipeline of co-location, overpowering, and repowering projects.  This role will initially focus on the co-location of a large solar project with existing Ventient wind farms in Northern-Spain.

Reporting to the Construction Project Manager and utilising technical Project Engineering knowledge and experience, the Construction Project Engineer will work closely with the wider Asset Excellence department, Growth, HSQE, Asset Management teams, consultants and contractors, to lead and oversee the technical delivery aspects of the project whilst assisting the wider team in safely delivering the project to programme and budget.   

Key Responsibilities

1.Growth

Support the Growth Business Development team, and Construction Project Management team in the project development phase:

  • Reviewing and commenting on the preliminary design of co-location, repowering, and overpowering projects
  • Mitigating technical construction risk throughout the development stage
  • Ensuring technical and HSQE requirements are captured in initial design
  • Reviewing and commenting on site, access, and grid agreement as required
  • Support the development of budgets for key work packages to support business case approval

2.Pre-Construction

Support the achievement of financial close and final budget approval, ensuring key contracts are ready for construction phase, and risks mitigated:

  • Support the Project Manager in the detailed creation of Pre-construction and construction programmes, breaking down packages of work
  • Providing technical input into tender of pre-construction activities such as ground investigation, geology. Following up and managing work to ensure technical and safety requirements are met.
  • Work closely with the wider Asset Excellence department to ensure project specifications are accurately captured for contract tender processes
  • Review tender suitability and compliance with Employer Requirements and relevant technical regulations
  • Ensure that external providers are fully aware of all company and site-specific HSQE requirements and that all documentation is assessed and accepted by the relevant team in advance of any planned works

3.Construction

Act as the primary engineering point of contact for construction project contractors and stakeholders to ensure safe delivery to specification:

  • Coordinate of both onsite and offsite contractors against agreed contracts
  • Represent the Employer at site technical meetings
  • Coordinate Client Technical Advisor contract
  • Support the interface between contractors and key stakeholders including local planning authorities and landowners
  • Prepare necessary technical project reporting
  • Ensure continuous compliance with relevant Health, Safety and Environmental standards and legislation
  • Provide support in managing claims and variations
  • Oversee commissioning and testing, and support the formal Take Over process with contractors
  • Manage the Interface with grid connection works and compliance testing
  • Ensure an efficient handover of completed projects to Asset Management

Relevant experience: 

  • Demonstrable experience of supporting the delivery of utility scale solar PV generation projects
  • Multi-project and stakeholder management
  • Contractor and resource management
  • Has worked across internal teams to ensure delivery

Education and qualifications:

  • §Masters degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering (other disciplines may be considered depending on relevant experience)
  • Qualification in Project Management (PRINCE2, AMP)
