Director - Energy And Industrial GHG Innovations at Verra

Ian Kuwahara has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. Ian is currently serving as the Director - Energy and Industrial GHG Innovations at Verra, where they lead the innovation strategy for emission reductions in industry and the energy sectors. Ian'sfocus is on accelerating opportunities related to carbon capture utilization & storage (CCUS), methane management, and the clean energy transition.

Prior to this, Ian worked as a Senior Technical Advisor at Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) from 2016 to 2021. Ian also held the position of Technical Director at Cap-Op Energy from 2012 to 2016, where they led the consulting practice for emission quantification and emission reduction project development. Ian'sproject experience includes energy efficiency, renewable energy, carbon capture and storage, enhanced oil recovery, biofuels, and waste avoidance/biogas.

Before joining Cap-Op Energy, Ian worked as the Manager - Technical Projects at The Prasino Group from 2010 to 2014. Ian also worked as a Consultant at Bio Intelligence Service S.A.S. from 2009 to 2010, where they focused on life cycle analysis and energy efficiency policy development. Ian began their engineering career at Starco Engineering as a Mechanical Engineer in Training from 2005 to 2007 and later worked as a Power Development Engineer in Training at TransCanada from 2003 to 2004.

Ian Kuwahara completed their education with a Master of Science degree in Management and Engineering of Environment and Energy from IMT Atlantique from 2007 to 2009. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary between 2000 and 2005. Ian also holds a certification as a Professional Engineer from APEGA, which they obtained in 2011.
