Keara Sutherland, MSc has a diverse work experience in the field of research and biotechnology. Keara is currently working at Virica Biotech as an Associate Scientist, and prior to that, they worked as a Research Technologist at the same company. In 2021, they were a Research Technician at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. Keara also has experience as a Master Thesis Student at the University of Ottawa, where they worked on developing novel oncolytic viruses expressing viral sensitizer-like effector proteins. During their time at the University of Ottawa, Keara gained skills in virus genetic modification, viral production, animal model work, molecular cloning techniques, and viral characterization. Keara was awarded the Ontario Graduate Scholarship and CIHR Canadian Graduate Scholarship. Before their MSc program, Keara worked as a Honours Thesis student at Queen's University, where they focused on developing therapeutic interventions for the prevention of AML development and myelodysplastic syndrome. Additionally, they have experience as a Summer Research Student at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and the Institut de recherche en immunologie et en cancérologie (IRIC), where they gained skills in a variety of research techniques. Keara's research work at IRIC earned their a best poster presentation award at the first IRIC's Intern Day Conference poster competition. Keara also worked as a Research Intern at Carleton University.
Keara Sutherland, MSc pursued their Master of Science degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Ottawa from 2019 to 2020. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Life Science with a specialization in cancer research from Queen's University, where they studied from 2015 to 2019.
