Tony Schmidt has over 20 years of work experience in various roles and industries. Tony is currently a Staff Software Engineer at VistaPath Biosystems, where they develop and deploys systems and applications using Python, JavaScript, React, Node, CouchDB, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and ArgoCD/GitOps on AWS. Tony has also designed the cloud infrastructure to support remote access to the medical tissue grossing/approval process for multiple companies and labs and managed the technical security/compliance process.
Before joining VistaPath Biosystems, Tony was a Lead Full-Stack Software Engineer at CloudRunner from 2017 to 2020. There, they built CloudRunner's next-gen SaaS portal for small to medium business IT needs using React/JS, GraphQL, and Python/Flask. Tony also worked with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm for development and deployment.
Prior to that, Tony worked at Brandly Inc. as a Lead Full-Stack Software Engineer from 2014 to 2016. Tony implemented Brandly's SOA using platform agnostic tools in AWS. Tony also worked on back-end services to parse business card PDFs, fetch/substitute fonts, and apply rules/patterns to define brand identity.
Tony's earlier work experience includes being a Full-Stack Software Engineer at Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op from 2008 to 2014, where they transitioned paper-based processes to custom software tools and integrated POS, back-office, and web systems. Tony also worked as a Software Engineer at Excelisys from 2007 to 2008, building membership management applications and veterinary/medical software.
Before transitioning into software engineering, Tony worked as a Technical Project Manager at Washington Mutual from 2005 to 2007, managing online originations projects and releasing online Credit Deposit products. Tony also worked as a Technical Project Manager at Sensory, Inc. from 2000 to 2005, managing voice recognition and speech synthesis projects and building internal tools for automation.
Tony's earliest work experience includes roles as a Credit Coordinator/Documentation Specialist at ATEL Capital Group in 1999 and an English Teacher (EFL) at Boğaziçi Özel Öğretim in 1998.
Tony Schmidt attended Hochschule Furtwangen from 2004 to 2005, where they studied Computer Science. Prior to that, from 1993 to 1998, they pursued their Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at Sonoma State University, graduating with Cum Laude honors. In addition to their formal education, Tony obtained the Okta Certified Professional certification from Okta, Inc. in May 2018.
