Cathal Smyth

Cathal Smyth has significant experience in the legal field, primarily focusing on commercial and data protection matters. Cathal is currently the Head of Legal at Vivid Money, where they are responsible for all legal activities within the company. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Legal Counsel and Data Protection Officer at EML, where they reviewed and negotiated various contracts and liaised with internal teams to resolve issues. Cathal also served as a Legal Counsel, Compliance & Data Protection Officer at humm group, handling legal, compliance, GDPR, AML, and data protection matters. In addition to these roles, Cathal has held positions at Fujitsu, Architas, Janus Capital Group, Deutsche Bank, Invesco Global Asset Management, HSBC, and Coonan Cawley Solicitors, gaining experience in contract management, risk mitigation, and litigation.

Cathal Smyth has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Economics and Geography from Maynooth University, which they obtained between 2002 and 2005. Cathal also completed a postgraduate diploma in law from the Dublin Institute of Technology in 2005-2006. In 2011-2013, Smyth attended the Law Society of Ireland, where they pursued a Professional Practice Course. Cathal later obtained a Diploma in finance law from the same institution in 2012-2013. Recently, in 2020, Smyth acquired a Certificate in Technology Law from the Law Society of Ireland.
