Jan Lucas

Jan Lucas is the Community Engagement Coordinator at Volunteering Victoria. Jan has worked in this role since October 2016, and is responsible for recruiting, training and supporting volunteer mentors to work with young people at risk of disengagement from the education system, or connection with the criminal justice system. Jan also creates community partnerships with local businesses and organisations to sponsor staff involvement in the program.

Prior to their current role, Jan was Supervisor of the Work for the Dole program at Paynesville Neighbourhood Centre & The Abbey of St Barnabas. In this role, they established a collaboration between Paynesville Neighbourhood Centre and the Abbey of St Barnabas to establish a work for the dole program on the Abbey site, supervising participants in the restoration and renovation of old buildings, re-purposing an old shed to create an environment information hub using recycled and donated materials, construct built-in furniture for hub, revegetating and weed removal to protect and develop the indigenous native environment, designing and developing information brochures and creating artistic murals to illustrate native wildlife on Raymond Island.

Jan has also worked as a Program Coordinator for Workways Australia, where they were responsible for recruiting, training and supporting volunteer mentors to work with young people at risk of disengagement from the education system, or connection with the criminal justice system. Jan has also been self-employed.

Jan Lucas has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies from RMIT University. Jan also has a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment from Federation Training, a Diploma of Professional Counselling from the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors, and a Diploma in Furniture Design and Manufacturing from East Gippsland TAFE. Jan is also certified by Federation Training as a Crosscut and Chainsaw operator.
