Javier Varela

SVP, Industrial Operations & Quality at Volvo Cars

After obtaining a university degree in industrial engineering, Javier Varela started his professional career at PSA Peugeot Citroën in Vigo, Spain in 1990. He held various positions within Manufacturing until 2003, when he moved to the PSA Peugeot Citroën global headquarters in Paris to work as Industrial Strategy Coordinator, in charge of planning and development for PSA’s global manufacturing facilities. Between 2007 and 2011 he worked in Argentina, first heading up industrial operations in the country and subsequently as President and CEO of PSA Argentina. In 2011, Javier moved back to France to take charge of PSA’s manufacturing industrial pole in the East of France including the Sochaux, Herimoncourt and Vesoul plants. Three years later, in 2014, he was appointed Executive Vice President for Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile’s operations in Czech Republic. Javier Varela joined the Executive Management Team of the Volvo Car Group as Senior Vice President on November 1, 2016 and heads Industrial Operations and Quality.
