Michael Rooney, PG, CPG has a diverse and extensive work experience in the environmental field. Michael is currently the Director of the Environmental Compliance and Affairs Department at Washington Gas, where they are responsible for strategic planning, budgeting, and environmental liability management. Prior to this role, they served as the Manager of the Environmental Compliance and Affairs Department at Washington Gas.
Before joining Washington Gas, Rooney held positions at various organizations, including North Wind Group (formerly known as Portage), HydroGeoLogic, Inc., Booz Allen Hamilton, and Maryland Environmental Service. At North Wind Group, they served as a Senior Project Manager, leading environmental restoration program initiatives at Joint Base Andrews and managing multiple client-facing staff. At HydroGeoLogic, they also worked as a Senior Project Manager, managing remedial design/activities for a large groundwater plume and providing engineering support services for assessing perfluoronated compounds. At Booz Allen Hamilton, they were a Lead Associate, responsible for managing task orders and providing technical support to defense bases. At Maryland Environmental Service, they worked as a Project Manager and Environmental Specialist, overseeing dredged material management, hazardous waste facilities, and water and wastewater initiatives.
Rooney's work experience demonstrates their expertise in environmental compliance, restoration, remediation, and project management. Michael has successfully led diverse teams, managed multi-million dollar contracts, and ensured compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Michael Rooney, PG, CPG has a Master of Science degree (MS) from The Johns Hopkins University, which they obtained from 2000 to 2002. Michael also holds a Bachelor of Science degree (BS) from Penn State University, earned from 1994 to 1997. In addition to their academic achievements, they have obtained several certifications including "Leadership Presence in Action" from LinkedIn in 2022, "Professional Geologist" from the State of Alaska in 2014, and "Certified Professional Geologist (CPG)" from the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) in December 2014.
