Ken McCarthy

Head of the Centre for Technology Enhanced Learning at Waterford Institute of Technology

Ken McCarthy is the current head of the Centre for Technology Enhanced Learning at Waterford Institute of Technology. Ken has been in this role since September 2021. Prior to that, they were a part-time online tutor with Dublin City University from September 2017 to September 2021. Ken has also worked as an eLearning Instructional Designer with Waterford Institute of Technology from June 2013 to January 2020. In this role, they provided pedagogical and technical guidance for a range of projects across the institute. Ken has also contributed to the continuous development and delivery of continuing professional development activities and training relating to technology-enhanced learning, including Moodle.

Ken McCarthy has a postgraduate diploma in innovation through design thinking from University College Cork, an MSc in management of internet enterprise systems from Dublin City University, and a higher diploma in business in management from Waterford Institute of Technology. Ken also has a diploma in business studies from Munster Technological University. Their certification from the LSP Method is in certified facilitator of the LEGO Serious Play Method. Ken is also certified by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education as a facilitator for PACT – Commitment to PD.

Ken McCarthy reports to Derek O'Byrne, VP for Academic Affairs & Registrar & Secretary of the Academic Council. They work with Aidan McGrath - I.T. Manager, Colette Moloney - Assistant Registrar, and Paul O'leary - Head of Quality Promotion & Academic Policy Development.
