Austen Onek has extensive work experience in the field of meteorology and communications. Austen is currently working as the Chief Meteorologist at WDEF-TV since June 2022. Prior to this, Austen worked as a Public Information Specialist at the Shelby County Health Department from July 2020 to July 2022. In addition, they have also served as a Substitute Teacher at Bartlett City Schools from August 2018 to July 2022.

Austen's earlier roles include working as a Digital Media Manager and Senior Meteorologist at Nexstar Media Group, Inc. from November 1997 to January 2020. In addition, Austen obtained an Amateur Radio Operators License - General Level from the Federal Communications Commission in February 2000. Lastly, in January 1997, they became a certified Merit Badge Counselor through the Boy Scouts of America, Chickasaw Area Council.
