The Construction Cost Accountant is responsible for all aspects of a construction projects’ accounting cycle from the commencement of a project until the project is finalized. The Construction Cost Accountant works closely with the project management team to ensure accurate recognition of project revenues and costs. In general, this includes accurate and timely billing of construction projects and maintaining and analyzing cost reports, contracts and budgets, payables, receivables, and subcontractors. 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Sets-up, monitors, and maintains project details and data in Wolverine’s project management, accounting, and CRM systems.
  • Communicates effectively with subcontractors on Wolverine projects.
  • Reviews and processes subcontractor invoices, other job-cost invoices, and supporting documentation.
  • Records job cost reclassification as needed following analysis of job cost reports and transactions.
  • Prepares and submits monthly job progress billings as per each customers’ requirements and verify over/under billing status.
  • Prepares monthly Sworn Statement as required and tracks required waivers of lien.
  • Assists in creating subcontracts and change orders and maintains contract changes, progress billings and payments in accounting systems.
  • Tracks and reports project cost and billings each month, updating relevant reporting for financial statement integration.
  • Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Management or three (3) years' experience in construction accounting preferred.
  • Experience with various accounting programs and systems preferred.
  • General understanding of accounting practices and principles.

Other Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite with Advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Applies discretion and trust with confidential material.
  • Maintains a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial data.
  • Possesses and applies good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills essential.
