Assistant Secretary-general at World Meteorological Organization

Thomas Asare currently serves as the Assistant Secretary-General at the World Meteorological Organization since May 2024, overseeing the organization’s corporate strategic direction, budgetary resources, and administration. Previously, Thomas held significant financial leadership roles, including Comptroller and Director of Financial and Administrative Management at UNICEF, where strategic oversight of global financial operations was provided. Thomas also served as Director of Programming, Budget, Finance, and Accounting and CFO for the African Union, contributing to the union's financial management and accountability. Other roles include Head of Finance at ICLARM, Chief Audit Executive at the African Capacity Building Foundation, and Senior Financial Analyst at USAID. Thomas's educational background includes advanced degrees in Accounting, Finance, and Audit Management, along with a forthcoming PhD in Financial Governance from the University of South Africa.
