Amitabh Kumar has been working in the field of media and communications since 2008. Amitabh started their career at Centre for Social Research as the Head of Media and Communications, where they managed traditional and online communications, wrote press releases and statements, coordinated press events and interviews, and produced quarterly newsletters and regular website content. In 2013, they became a Consultant for CSR India. In 2015, they founded #SocialSurfing, an initiative to create a culture of positive gender sensitive online environment, by promoting use of counter speech, through sensitive campaigns and listing user-driven best practices. In 2016, they founded Tweesurfing, an online safety initiative started by Twitter and Centre For social research. Amitabh conducted college workshops with millennials and created content on online safety using twitter influencers. In 2018, they founded Social Media Matters. In 2020, they became an Investor and Advisor for Yolo-India : Youth Online Learning Opportunities, and a Co-Founder of Wranga.

Amitabh Kumar attended Vasant Valley School from 1990 to 2001. Amitabh then pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Mikrosystemtechnik (Microsystems Engineering) at The University of Freiburg from 2002 to 2007.
