Svetlana Khakhina

Svetlana Khakhina has a diverse work experience in various scientific and research roles. Svetlana currently serves as an Associate Principal Scientist at WuXi Advanced Therapies, where they are responsible for designing, supervising, and interpreting R&D and GMP studies. Svetlana also leads a team and ensures project deadlines are met.

Before that, Svetlana worked as a Research Post Doctoral Fellow at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where they focused on mapping intracellular trafficking of proteins involved in Cystic Fibrosis disease. Svetlana also identified and validated potential therapeutic targets through genetic manipulations and independently conducted experiments.

Prior to that, they served as an Assistant Teaching Professor at Drexel University, where they taught lectures and labs, trained students in laboratory techniques, and developed training materials. Svetlana also served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, leading a research project aimed at decoding HIV-1 resistance in human T-cells. In addition to managing the lab, they coordinated with clinical teams.

Svetlana also worked as a Postdoctoral Scholar at The University of Iowa, where they identified novel drug targets for antifungal treatment. Svetlana conducted gene mutations in yeast and performed molecular assays. Svetlana began their career as an intern at ChemBridge Corporation, where they developed a 96-well plate assay for combinatorial chemistry drug discovery.

Overall, Svetlana Khakhina has extensive experience in scientific research, project management, team leadership, and teaching in various fields.

Svetlana Khakhina earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology from Rowan University between 2006 and 2013. Prior to that, they obtained an Engineering degree (equivalent of Master's) in Standardization and Certification of Chemical-Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Products from Lomonosov Moscow State Academy of Fine Chemical Technology (MITHT) from 1999 to 2006. In addition, they have obtained a certification in "Data Science: R Basics" from edX in June 2020.
