Senior Research Associate at Xap Therapeutics

Paola Colaco Osorio has a range of work experience in the scientific research field. Paola is currently working at Xap Therapeutics as a Research Associate, a position they started in August 2022. Prior to this, they worked as a Research Technician at Xap Therapeutics from December 2021 to August 2022.

In 2021, Paola had a Summer Studentship at the Department of Infectious Diseases at King's College London, where they gained valuable experience in the field.

Before that, in 2019, they had a lab placement at the School of Developmental Neurobiology at King's College London. During their placement, they worked for 8 weeks in the lab of Dr. Camilla Larsen, where they were involved in propagating fly lines, conducting dissections and microscopy of larval brains, and performing behavioral assays of Drosophila larvae. Paola also interpreted and presented the results of their work.

In the same year, they had another lab placement at the School of Neuroscience at the University of Sussex. Paola spent 10 weeks in the lab of Dr. Sarah Guthrie, where they focused on investigating phosphorylation effects using site-directed mutagenesis. Paola also gained experience in molecular biology techniques, such as plasmid construction, PCR, cloning, and aseptic technique. Paola actively participated in the lab team, communicating and resolving protocol challenges, and also took part in the journal club.

Their earliest work experience was as a Summer Intern in Science Communications at the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences in 2017. Overall, Paola's work experience demonstrates a strong foundation in scientific research and a commitment to advancing knowledge in their field.

Paola Colaco Osorio completed their Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Biochemistry at King's College London from 2019 to 2021. Prior to that, they pursued their A levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry at Richmond School and Sixth Form College from 2013 to 2015. Earlier, from 2011 to 2013, they obtained their GCSEs from Richmond School and Sixth Form College in North Yorkshire.
