James Ernst

James Ernst is an accomplished biotechnology executive with extensive experience in protein sciences and technology. Currently serving as Vice President of Development Sciences and Head of Protein Sciences & Technology at Xencor since September 2019, James previously held leadership roles including Executive Director and Senior Director within the same department. Prior to Xencor, James was Senior Director at Amphivena Therapeutics Inc. and spent over 16 years at Genentech in various capacities, culminating as Senior Scientist and Project & Group Leader focused on therapeutic antibodies and proteins in cancer immunotherapy and neuroscience. James began professional training as a Pre Doctoral Research Fellow at the National Institutes of Health. Educational credentials include a Post Doctoral Fellowship from Stanford University School of Medicine, a Ph.D. in Biophysics and Molecular Biology from Yale University, and a B.S. in Chemistry from Union College.
