Philip N. Duncan, Ph.D.

Philip N. Duncan, Ph.D. has extensive experience in operations, life sciences, advanced product development, research engineering, and scientific consulting. Philip N. began their career in 2003 as a Research Assistant at UC San Diego, where they designed and constructed experiment platforms, built nitric oxide glass microelectrode sensors, and created small-volume optical hemoglobin sensors. In 2005, they worked as a Drug Eluting Stents Engineer at Abbott Vascular, providing engineering support for the launch of a drug eluting coronary stent system, controlling revisions to build documentation, and resolving and preventing non-conforming product and equipment malfunctions. That same year, they began working as a Research Intern at Invitrogen, where they designed and fabricated soft lithography microfluidic prototypes and conducted experimental testing of chemistry and flow devices. In 2007, they joined Glumetrics, Inc. as a Blood Glucose Sensor Engineer, performing in vitro testing of a novel blood glucose sensor, writing testing procedure and equipment installation/qualification documentation, and purchasing experiment materials and maintaining calibration of equipment. From 2008 to 2014, they worked at UC Irvine as a Microfluidic Device Researcher, designing and developing pneumatic logic circuits for integrated control of microfluidic devices, optimizing manufacturing processes for glass and plastic materials, and refining surface treatment chemistries and attachment process. In 2017, they joined Xidas Inc. as Vice President Operations, Director of Lifesciences, Director of Advanced Product Development, and Sr. Research Engineer/Sr. Scientist.

Philip N. Duncan, Ph.D. has a long history of education. In 2001, they obtained a BS in Bioengineering (ABET) from UC San Diego. Philip N. then went on to pursue a M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from UC Irvine, which they completed in 2009. Finally, they obtained their Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from UC Irvine in 2013. Additionally, they are a Certified ScrumMaster from the Scrum Alliance.
