Zachary Houston

Senior Research Associate at Yali Bio

Zachary Houston began their professional career in 2013 as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Pennsylvania State University. In 2015, they were promoted to Undergraduate Researcher at the same university, where they were responsible for observing and manipulating a symbiosis between a host environment and its associated bioluminescent bacterium. In 2017, they moved to Eggs N At as a Line Cook, serving up Pittsburgh Fan Favorites diner food. In 2021, they joined Yali Bio as a Research Associate I, leveraging tools of biotechnology to redesign microbial metabolism for the production of high-value compounds as additives to sustainable foods. Additionally, they held a Molecular Biology and Strain Development Intern role, where they were responsible for designing custom microbes to produce animal-free and environmentally sustainable foods.

Zachary Houston's education history includes attending the Waldorf School of Pittsburgh from 2008 to 2012, followed by Penn State University from 2012 to 2016, where they earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Currently, they are pursuing a Practical Science Master's - PSM in Biotechnology from the University of San Francisco, which they are expected to complete by 2022.
