Matt Brownell

VP, Commercial at Yoco

Matt Brownell is currently the VP, Commercial at Yoco. Matt has held this position since February 2017. Prior to their current role, Matt was the Regional Trade Marketing Manager at The South African Breweries from January 2011 to February 2017. In this role, they led the Regional Trade Marketing team and was responsible for managing multiple workstreams, including Strategy, Events, Promotions, Insights and Space & Assets. Matt also managed a team of over 30 people and the region's trade marketing budget.

Before their role at The South African Breweries, Matt was the Marketing Project Manager at FIFA from January 2009 to October 2010. In this role, they were responsible for overall FIFA deliverables, as well as central co-ordination of the nine Host Cities and Event Operators, eight core suppliers, four Sponsors and numerous stakeholders across all project workstreams. Matt was also involved in the conception of the Fan Fest commercial and sponsorship model, and was responsible for ensuring that all commercial rights of the sponsors were fulfilled and all onsite operational requirements were met. Overall, they successfully managed a R65m FIFA budget and 10 FIFA Venue Managers during the event.

Matt Brownell's educational career includes completing a B.Com Honours in Management, Economics and Industrial Psychology at Rhodes University, as well as attending Michaelhouse.

Matt Brownell reports to Katlego Maphai, CEO. Matt Brownell works with Carl Wazen - Chief Business Officer, Adam Duxbury - Chief of Staff, and Bradley Wattrus - CFO. Some direct reports include Evelien Griffioen - Head of Customer Experience, Ronald Makomba - Head of Customer Success.
