Newton Truong

Newton Truong is currently the Lead Data Engineer at Counterpart. Newton was previously the Senior Data & Platform Engineer at Thrive Market from April 2018 to March 2022. While at Thrive Market, they led technical improvements on search experience and infrastructure. Prior to Thrive Market, Newton was a Software Engineer at Deep 6 AI from January 2014 to February 2018. At Deep 6 AI, they used the scikit-learn Python library to create linear models to classify usage of slashes (‘/’) in text, improved, debugged, and maintained a NLP pipeline to extract clinical data using cTAKES library, worked cross-functionally to integrate a simple graph traversal algorithm written in Neo4j’s API, and implemented an algorithm from research papers for ranking nodes in medical ontology (ie SNOMED CT). Before Deep 6 AI, Newton was a Graduate Student Researcher at Networked and Embedded Systems Laboratory from June 2011 to December 2013. Newton's MS Thesis was on Adaptation Using System Identification to Improve Electrolocation. Newton researched a novel underwater sensor using electric fields, modeled the sensor environment using linear system identification, and processed raw sensor data using machine learning for anomaly detection and pattern recognition.

Newton Truong received their Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. Newton also holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the same school.
