Emma Essock-Burns

Senior Director, Clinical Engineering at Ziteo Medical

Emma Essock-Burns has a diverse work experience in the field of healthcare and biodesign. Emma is currently working as the Senior Director of Clinical Engineering at Ziteo Medical since May 2022. Prior to that, they served as an Engineering Coach in the Biodesign Faculty Fellowship Program at the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign starting from January 2020.

Emma also co-founded vasAR Technologies and worked as the Chief Technology Officer from December 2021 to June 2022. Emma has held various positions at ViewRay, Inc., including Director of Clinical Engineering from July 2019 to August 2021 and Director of MRI Applications in June 2019.

Earlier in their career, Emma worked at Verb Surgical Inc. as the Clinical Engineering Manager for Digital Surgery from June 2017 to May 2019, and as a Senior Clinical Engineer and Technical Business Development Lead from May 2016 to June 2017. Emma also worked at AlterG as the Director of Product Strategy from January 2016 to May 2016, Product Manager from September 2014 to December 2015, and Manager of New Market Development from April 2014 to September 2014.

Emma's work experience also includes roles at The Data Guild as a Healthcare Data Science Consultant from October 2013 to September 2014, Stanford University as a Biodesign Innovation Fellow from August 2012 to June 2013, and GE Healthymagination as a Biodesign Innovation Consultant in March 2013.

Emma completed their Ph.D. in the UCSF/UCB Joint Graduate Group in Bioengineering at UCSF in July 2012.

Emma Essock-Burns has a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Bioengineering from the University of California, San Francisco, obtained from 2007 to 2012. Emma also holds another Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Bioengineering from the University of California, Berkeley, during the same period. In addition, they completed a Certificate Program in Management of Technology from the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business from 2007 to 2011. Prior to their doctoral studies, Emma earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biomedical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University from 2003 to 2007.
