1. A Top Facebook AI Researcher Departs After Almost a Decade
Joaquin Quiñonero Candela, the Distinguished Technical Lead for Responsible AI at Facebook, has officially stepped away from the social media giant after almost a decade. He hasn't left the tech titan for a new role and instead will take the next several months to relax, reenergize, and let his mind wander.
2. Robinhood’s Marketing Chief Exits After One Year On The Job
Robinhood’s top marketing and communications executive, Christina Smedley, has announced that she is stepping down from her role. Smedley didn’t offer up any details on the reason for her exit or her next move, but did say that there would be “More about what's next soon.”
3. Hewlett Packard Enterprise Hires a New CTO From VMware
Hewlett Packard Enterprise has selected Fidelma Russo as the company’s next CTO to help sculpt its tech roadmap and manage the development of its edge-to-cloud platform, called GreenLake. The 30 year tech veteran joins HPE after serving as SVP and GM of VMware’s Cloud Services business unit.
4. Acorns Adds a New President Ahead of Crypto Launch and Public Debut
Simple Finance CEO David Hijirida has officially joined the executive team at Acorns as the micro investing app’s President. CEO Noah Kerner said that given Hijirida’s fintech, payments, operations, and product development expertise he “will be a great addition to our team at Acorns as we take the next step to our future.”
5. T-Mobile Has a New General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Starting next month on October 11, antitrust and civil litigation expert Mark W. Nelson will join T-Mobile as the US telecom giant’s next EVP and General Counsel. He has practiced law for over 25 years at Cleary Gottlieb and has been counsel to T-Mobile US for the past two decades. The company also revealed that Broady Hodder, the company’s SVP of Corporate Governance and Strategic Transactions, has been elected as its new corporate secretary and will report to Nelson.
6. Ford Builds on Apple Hire With New Digital and Information Chief
Just a week after Ford announced the titanic news that it had poached the leader of Apple’s secretive car project to lead its advanced tech efforts, the Detroit-based automotive titan has revealed it has a new Chief Digital and Information Officer, Mike Amend. Amend joins the iconic automaker from Lowe’s and will lead Ford's use of data, software and technology to drive growth as part of the Ford+ strategy.
7. Insurtech Duck Creek Technologies Gets a New CMO
Duck Creek Technologies announced Monday that marketing industry veteran Jeff Winter has joined the company as Chief Marketing Officer. Winter joins the insurance technology startup from Rocket Software, where he also served as CMO.
8. Vroom Appoints a New CFO
Vroom, an e-commerce marketplace for buying and selling used cars, announced on Monday that Robert Krakowiak will be its next Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately. He previously served as the CFO of Stoneridge Corporation.
9. Data Startup H1 Hires New Chief Financial and Chief Data Officers
Healthcare data platform H1 has hired industry veterans Karen Moran as its new Chief Financial Officer, and Mayur Thakur as its new Chief Data Officer, additionally, former Dropbox CIO Sylvie Veilleux has joined its Board of Directors.
10. Ethos Has a New CTO and President
Insurance technology company Ethos has promoted Vipul Sharma to Chief Technology Officer and co-founder Lingke Wang will become President. The company has grown significantly over the past year, adding Jennifer Liu from Google as CPO, Anan Kashyap from Poshmark as CFO, and Troy Thompson from Legal & General America as Chief Actuary, and promoting David Zhang to Chief Strategy Officer.
