Karen Scanlan has a strong background in human resources and leadership development. Karen has held various high-level positions throughout their career. From 2019 to present, they worked as the Director of People Operations, Support, and Facilities at 1QBit, where they successfully rebuilt the People Operations Team, implemented a total compensation and reward program, introduced performance management with an online platform, and led a leadership development curriculum. Prior to that, from 2017 to 2019, they served as the Vice President of People and Culture at Extendicare Inc., where they established a business partner model for the HR team, launched several talent management and development programs, aligned benefits plans, and developed health and safety teams. From 2011 to 2017, they were the Vice President of Human Resources at Right To Play, an international charity, overseeing the HR functions across 20 countries. From 2007 to 2011, they held the position of Vice President of Human Resources at SIR Corp., and from 1995 to 2007, they worked at Cara Operations, first as the Director of Organization Development and later as the Director of HR.
Karen Scanlan's education history includes a range of qualifications acquired throughout different periods of their life. In 1982, they attended Western University, earning a Hons BA degree in English, which took their until 1986. Later, in 1994, Karen obtained a Certificate in Adult Learning and Education from OISE (University of Toronto). Moving forward to 2014, they completed a Certificate in Strategic HR Leadership at the University of Toronto - Rotman School of Management. From 2016 to 2018, Karen pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Human Resources Management and Development at The University of Salford. Lastly, in 2013, they engaged in a program at Inside NGO focusing on Navigating International HR.
