Maryam Ghavami

Maryam Ghavami is a Senior Scientist in Medicinal Chemistry at AbbVie, a position held since March 2021. Prior to this role, Maryam was a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from August 2018 to February 2021, where responsibilities included synthesizing and characterizing diverse compounds and conducting biological assays. Academic experience includes serving as a Graduate Research Assistant at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University from January 2012 to May 2018, focusing on novel chemical synthesis for malaria therapeutic candidates and conducting structure-activity relationship studies. Additionally, Maryam completed a Medicinal Chemistry Scientist Co-op at GSK in 2016, working on compound synthesis and optimization for various therapeutic projects. Education includes a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Virginia Tech and both an M.S. and Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Shiraz University.
