Sergey Somkov

Sergey Somkov has a diverse work experience in the technology industry. Sergey started their career at ABBYY in 1998 as a C++ Programmer, where they developed and supported FineReader software. Sergey then took on various roles within the company, including Head of FineReader User Interface Development Group and FineReader Developer Manager. Sergey also served as the Deputy Chief Technology Officer, managing groups of developers and introducing technology standards at ABBYY.

Sergey joined Automation Systems Ltd. in 2012 as the Chief Technology Officer, responsible for managing software development and leading a team of 50 people. Sergey returned to ABBYY in 2017 as the Head of Common Cloud Infrastructure Group and later took on roles such as CTO of Cloud and Shared Development and Head of Shared Product Services Department.

In 2018, Sergey joined Yandex as the Head of Compute, responsible for managing Yandex.Cloud Compute service. Sergey later moved back to ABBYY in 2021 as the VP of Product Engineering. In this role, they made significant contributions to the relocation process of personnel and data and introduced Performance Review processes for the entire R&D team.

Additionally, Sergey has worked as a lecturer at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, where they created and taught a course on Graphical User Interface Development and recruited students for Abbyy Software House.

Sergey Somkov attended Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (State University) from 1995 to 1999, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Math and Physics. Sergey then pursued a Master of Science degree in Applied Math and Physics from the same institution from 1999 to 2001.
