Jiyun Byun

Jiyun Byun has a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and companies. They are currently employed as the Senior Director of Vision and Machine Learning at Akoya Biosciences, Inc. Prior to this, Jiyun held various positions at Epic Sciences, starting as an Imaging Engineer in 2015 and progressing to the roles of Computer Vision Engineer, Lead Computer Vision Engineer, Senior Manager of Computer Vision Research, Director of Computer Vision Technologies, and finally Senior Director of Computer Vision Technologies. During their time at Epic Sciences, Jiyun was responsible for developing and implementing computer vision, deep learning, and artificial intelligence capabilities in support of the company's tests. Before joining Epic Sciences, Jiyun worked at Mayachitra, Inc. as a Research Staff Member, leading the design and development of informatics software. They also have research experience as a Graduate Student Researcher and Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Additionally, Jiyun gained industry experience as a Summer Intern at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, conducting patent market research.

Jiyun Byun received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara between 2001 and 2007. Prior to that, they earned an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the same institution between 2001 and 2006.
