Melissa Costello

National Medical Director- Patient Advocacy at Global Medical Response

Melissa Costello, MD, MS, FACEP, FAEMS has a diverse work experience in the medical field. Melissa is currently serving as the National Medical Director for Patient Advocacy at Global Medical Response since 2022. Prior to this, they operated their own medical practice, Melissa W. Costello, M.D., LLC, where they worked as an Emergency Physician and EMS Medical Director starting in 2018. Additionally, they have served as an Oral Board Examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine since 2010.

In terms of professional affiliations and leadership roles, Melissa has been a Council Vice Speaker for the American College of Emergency Physicians since 2021. Melissa also had a tenure as the President of the Alabama Chapter and Board of Directors member for the American College of Emergency Physicians from 2009 to 2016. Furthermore, they served as Chair of the EMS Committee and EMS Committee Member from 2012 to 2014 and from 2008 to 2012, respectively.

From 2014 to 2018, Melissa occupied the position of Facility Medical Director at TeamHealth. Prior to that, they worked as an Emergency Physician at Emergency Physicians Group from 2010 to 2014. Melissa also held the role of Vice President at the Medical Association of the State of Alabama from 2010 to 2011.

Melissa started their academic career in 2003 as an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of South Alabama. Additionally, they had a leadership role as the Chief Medical Officer at Blueline Tactical Group LLC from 2008 to 2010.

Melissa Costello, MD, MS, FACEP, FAEMS received their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology from Georgetown University in 1995. Melissa then went on to earn their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2000. Following their medical degree, they completed a Residency in Emergency Medicine at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from 2000 to 2003. Recently, from 2017 to 2019, they pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in the Science of Healthcare Delivery at Arizona State University, College of Health Solutions.
