Matthew Hartings

Matthew Hartings is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at American University, a position held since 2010, following prior tenure as an Assistant Professor in the same field. Previously, Matthew served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the California Institute of Technology from July 2005 to August 2010, focusing on biophysical experiments related to bee venom. Matthew's academic journey began at Northwestern University, where efforts included developing protein microchip sensors and advanced mass spectroscopy devices as a Graduate Research Assistant from August 2000 to May 2005. Matthew started in the field as a SERS Intern at Sandia National Laboratories in 1998. Matthew earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Physics from the University of Dayton between 1996 and 2000, followed by a doctoral degree from Northwestern University from 2000 to 2005.
