Rowena Johnston

Vice President, Research at amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research

Rowena Johnston began their work experience in 1997 as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Emory University. Rowena then joined The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA IRP), NIH in 1998, where they worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow until 2001. From 2000 to 2001, they also served as a Scientific Advisor at Parkinson's Action Network/Michael J. Fox Foundation. In 2001, Johnston joined amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research as a Manager of Basic Research and held subsequent roles as Associate Director, Director of Basic Research, Director of Research, and finally Vice President of Research, which they held from December 2006 onwards.

Rowena Johnston has a strong education background in the field of psychology and neuroscience. From 1988 to 1991, they attended UNSW and earned a B.Sc. with first-class honors in Physiological Psychology. Later on, they pursued further studies at the University of Michigan, from 1992 to 1997, where they obtained a Ph.D. in Biopsychology/Neuroscience.
