Ian Hill, Ph.D. has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of biosciences. Ian is currently working as a Senior Scientist in Mammalian Synthetic Biology at Asimov. Prior to this, they were a Scientist in Genome Engineering at Colossal Biosciences.
Ian has also worked at GreenLight Biosciences, Inc. where they held the position of Scientist II in Pathway Engineering from January 2020 to January 2022. Before that, they served as a Scientist I in Pathway Engineering from August 2019 to January 2020.
In 2019, Ian worked as a Research Fellow at Boston Children's Hospital for a duration of three months. Ian then joined Harvard Medical School as a Researcher PhD Candidate in 2013 and completed their graduate work in the laboratory of Dr. Simon Dove. Their research focused on elucidating the molecular mechanism regulating the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a bacterial pathogen of humans.
During their time at Harvard Medical School, Ian also worked as a Graduate Student, completing three rotation projects. One of their projects involved studying the localization of RNA molecules to the membranes of pre-biotic protocells using amphipathic small peptides in the laboratory of Dr. Jack Szostak.
In 2017, Ian had a brief stint as a Graduate Student Intern at Manus Biosynthesis. Prior to that, during their undergraduate degree at North Carolina State University, they worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant for four years. Their research focused on the effects of plant viral infection on the expression of cell cycle proteins. Ian also co-authored a training manual for a capacity-building conference at the Mikocheni Agricultural Research Institute.
Ian's early research experience includes a summer internship as a Research Assistant at The MGH/HST Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging. During this internship, they contributed to the synthesis of novel histone demethylase inhibitors and developed quantitative assays to determine enzyme-inhibitor kinetics. Ian also worked as a Research Intern at Tengion in 2010.
Overall, Ian Hill, Ph.D. has a strong background in biosciences with expertise in mammalian synthetic biology, genome engineering, pathway engineering, and bacterial pathogen research.
Ian Hill, Ph.D., obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Polymer and Color Chemistry from North Carolina State University in 2013. During this time, they also pursued a second Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biochemistry. Ian continued their education at Harvard University from 2013 to 2019, where they earned their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biological and Biomedical Sciences.
