Ruyang Han

Principal Microbiologist/Fermentation Scientist at Atomo Coffee

Ruyang Han has a diverse range of work experience, spanning over two decades. They began their career as an Assistant Agronomist at the Center for Agricultural Technology Extension in Xiangshan from 1993 to 1996. They then worked as a Teaching Assistant at the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology at Rutgers University from 2004 to 2005. Ruyang Han continued their studies at Rutgers University, where they served as a Graduate Assistant from 2002 to 2008, completing their Ph.D. thesis project on gene organization and gene regulation in different bacterial species.

Following their time at Rutgers, Ruyang Han worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from 2008 to 2013. They then transitioned to a role as a Microbiologist at UC Davis and USDA Albany, where they conducted research on bacterial populations on the surfaces of almonds and the effects of using animal manure as a fertilizer in almond orchards. This role lasted from 2014 to 2016.

In 2016, Ruyang Han joined Assembly Biosciences, Inc. as a Scientist, specializing in research and development. They developed cultivation methods, optimized growth conditions, and identified bacterial strain candidates for clinical trials on CDI treatment.

From 2017 to 2018, Ruyang Han worked as a Microbiologist at MicroReme Inc., establishing and managing a microbiology research lab, providing training sessions, and presenting scientific solutions to clients and partners.

In 2018, Ruyang Han became the Director of Soil Systems and Soil Microbiologist at OMNIS Mineral Technologies, where they developed a novel soil amendment, established and managed a joint microbiology lab, and led collaborative research projects with USDA on beneficial soil bacteria.

From 2021 to 2022, Ruyang Han worked as a Senior Researcher in Cultures and Fermentation at Miyoko's, focusing on research in the field of fermentation.

Currently, Ruyang Han is the Principal Microbiologist and Fermentation Scientist at Atomo Coffee, a role they began in April 2022.

Ruyang Han obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Plant Protection from Zhejiang Agricultural University in the period from 1989 to 1993. Afterwards, Han pursued a Master of Science degree in Environmental Microbiology from Zhejiang University, completing this program from 1996 to 1999.

In the academic years between 2002 and 2008, Han attended Rutgers University, where they earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics.

Additionally, Han participated in the UC Davis Agricultural Innovation Entrepreneurship Academy at UC Davis for a brief duration in 2014. However, no specific degree or field of study is mentioned for this program.
