Lee Burnes

SVP, Global Research & Development at Avanos Medical

Lee Burnes is the Senior Vice President of Global R&D for Avanos Medical, where he leads an organization focused on the development of products, technologies, and solutions that deliver clinically superior outcomes to improve patients’ quality of life.

Lee has more than 25 years of medical device design and development leadership experience. Prior to joining Avanos, Lee successfully led numerous R&D organizations at Covidien in such fields as urology; safety injection devices; neonatal and obstetrics; and vascular disease management, as well as building PMO and technology development organizations. Under his leadership, teams have developed and brought to market more than 50 innovative new products and solutions. Lee currently holds 11 US patents and has a number of additional patents pending.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in plastics engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and a master’s of business administration degree from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
