John Tarrant

John Tarrant's work experience includes various roles as a Non Executive Director at Avicena Systems, Australia Advance Education Group Pty Ltd, and Norwood Systems Ltd. John also served as the Non Executive Chair at Polytechnic Institute Australia Pty Ltd. Prior to these positions, they worked as a Barrister-at-Law and Public Notary at 11 St James Hall Chambers. In 2004, they joined the University of Western Australia as a Professor, where they focused on developing junior mining companies. John is a member of the university's research committee and higher degrees committee. Additionally, John Tarrant has experience as the Managing Director of Balmain Resources Pty Ltd, a private mineral and oil and gas exploration company, and as the Non-Executive Chairman of Southern Hemisphere Mining Limited.

John Tarrant has an extensive education history in various fields of study. John began their academic journey at the University of Melbourne in 1980, where they earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree. In 1984, they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of New England (AU).

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, John Tarrant returned to the University of New England (AU) to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology/Earth Science. John further pursued their interest in law, completing a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the same institution.

John Tarrant continued their legal education at the University of Western Australia, where they earned a Doctor of Juridical Science degree from 2003 to 2005. Concurrently, they also attended the Australian National University, obtaining a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in 2005.

John'sacademic pursuits in law continued with a Master of Defence Studies degree from UNSW in 2007-2008, specializing in defence and foreign policy. John then pursued a Master of Laws (Criminal Prosecutions) at the University of Wollongong from 2011 to 2013, focusing on criminal law.

Throughout their educational journey, John Tarrant also obtained various graduate diplomas and certificates. Some notable qualifications include a Graduate Diploma in Advanced Military Law and a Graduate Diploma in Military Law from the Australian National University. Additionally, they obtained a Graduate Diploma in Education (Adult and Tertiary) from Murdoch University and a Graduate Diploma of Taxation from CQUniversity.

In the later stages of their education, John Tarrant engaged in higher education administration and online learning. John obtained a Graduate Certificate in Online Learning (Higher Education) from the University of Adelaide in 2009-2011 and a Graduate Certificate in Law Teaching from Monash University in 2006-2007. Additionally, they earned a Notarial Practice Course certification from The College of Law Australia in 2018.

Apart from their academic qualifications, John Tarrant also pursued additional certifications. These include the Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals from Microsoft in 2023 and certificates in The New Nordic Diet - from Gastronomy to Health and Gut Check: Exploring Your Microbiome from Coursera Course Certificates in 2016. John is also listed in the Roll of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia.
