Director Of Data Science at BENlabs

Jimmy (she/her) has a diverse work experience in the field of data science, starting with their current role as a Director of Data Science at BENlabs since February 2023. Prior to that, they worked as a Data Science Manager at the same company from July 2022 to February 2023, and as a Data Scientist from November 2021 to July 2022.

Before joining BENlabs, Jimmy worked at 3M as a Data Scientist from January 2017 to November 2021. During their time there, they focused on Natural Language Understanding tasks to apply machine learning to medical billing coding, initiated the team's first deep-learning project, and built multi-label deep learning models capable of predicting over 1,000 unique labels.

In 2016, Jimmy served as a Fellow at Insight Data Science. Prior to that, they worked at New Republic Brewing Company as a Tap Room Bartender from June 2011 to December 2016, where they assisted in the brewing and production of beer, managed tap room nights, and provided tours of the brewery.

Jimmy's early work experience includes roles at Texas A&M University and the University of Minnesota. At Texas A&M University, they worked as a Teaching Assistant and Astronomy Graduate Student from September 2009 to May 2016. Jimmy taught several undergraduate astronomy courses, assisted in the creation of new experiments, and became the instructor of record for Astronomy 102. In their graduate studies, they focused on galaxy formation and evolution, wrote Python-based software for analyzing galaxies, and performed SQL queries to select galaxies meeting specific criteria.

At the University of Minnesota, Jimmy worked as an Astronomy Teaching Assistant, Physics Tutor, Technical Support Specialist, and Tech Support Specialist from September 2005 to May 2009. Jimmy taught introductory astronomy, led public astronomy nights, provided physics tutoring to athletes, and offered technical support to over 100 users, implementing solutions for various departments within the Office of International Programs.

Lastly, Jimmy had an internship at the Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) as an EDELWEISS Intern in 2008, where they assisted in the construction of a neutron detector for the EDELWEISS dark matter search while communicating primarily in German.

Jimmy (She/Her) has a strong educational background in the field of science, particularly in astronomy and astrophysics. Jimmy completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Astronomy and Astrophysics from Texas A&M University between 2009 and 2015. Prior to that, they earned their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Physics from the University of Minnesota, graduating between 2004 and 2009.

Apart from their degrees, Jimmy also holds additional certifications. In November 2022, they obtained the certification titled "Confronting Bias: Thriving Across Our Differences" from LinkedIn. In May 2004, they acquired an A+ Certification from CompTIA.
