Tieng Yap

Tieng Yap has a diverse work experience spanning over 30 years. In their current role as Director of Cloud Engineering at Ellucian since 2017, they lead a team responsible for optimizing operations processes and managing Microsoft SQL and Oracle databases. Prior to this, Tieng held various positions at Blackboard Inc., including Director of Managed and Cloud Hosting Operations, Director of Database & Web Technologies, Sr. Manager of Database & Web Technologies, and Manager of Database Technologies. At Blackboard, they managed teams and maintained the performance and availability of web applications and database servers for numerous clients worldwide. Before joining Blackboard, Tieng worked at The Johns Hopkins University as a Lecturer and at the National Institutes of Health in various roles as a Sr. Computer Scientist, Computer Engineer, and Electronic Engineer. During their time at NIH, Tieng authored publications and developed software applications for scientific research.

Tieng Yap holds a Ph.D. in Information Technology from George Mason University, obtained between 1991 and 1995. Prior to that, Yap earned an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University from 1989 to 1991, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology from 1984 to 1988. Yap possesses additional certifications in various fields, including ITIL v3 Foundation, Oracle Database Administration for multiple versions, Sun Solaris Network and System Administration, and Microsoft Database and System Engineering.
