Alexandra Popa

Principal Scientist at Boehringer Ingelheim

Alexandra Popa has a diverse work experience in scientific research. Alexandra currently holds the position of Principal Scientist at Boehringer Ingelheim since December 2020. Previously, they worked as a Visiting Scientist at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard for a brief period in 2022.

From 2016 to 2020, Alexandra was a Senior Data Scientist at CeMM, where they worked extensively with multiple types of biological data, including RNAseq, proteomics, metabolomics, DNA methylation, and drug screens. Alexandra'srole involved designing experiments and analyzing and integrating big data to explore the cross-talk between immune responses and viral infections.

Before CeMM, Alexandra worked as a Research Engineer at IPMC CNRS-U. NICE SOPHIA from 2013 to 2016. Alexandra also gained research experience as a Research Engineer at Laboratoire de Biometrie et Biologie Evolutive from 2011 to 2012, where they collaborated on mathematical modeling of biological phenomena.

Alexandra's research career began as a PHD Researcher at LBBE Lyon from 2007 to 2011, focusing on meiotic recombination and its role in molecular evolution. Prior to that, they had internships at bioMerieux and CNRS/Biomerieux, where they developed algorithms for estimating probe quality on DNA chips.

Alexandra's work experience dates back to their high school years at Fratii Buzesti, where they completed their high school education from 1994 to 2001.

Alexandra Popa obtained a Bachelor's degree in BioInformatics from INSA Lyon - Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon from 2001 to 2005. Alexandra also holds a certification in Machine Learning from Coursera Course Certificates, obtained in 2018.
