Marcus Picard-Maureau has extensive work experience in scientific affairs, primarily in the field of blood safety and infectious diseases. Marcus has held various roles at Cerus and Abbott, focusing on Europe, Middle East & Africa. Marcus has also worked as a lecturer and junior group leader at the University of Heidelberg, teaching medical microbiology and virology, and conducting research in molecular virology. Prior to that, they worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Rudolf Virchow Center, where they managed a molecular virology laboratory and supervised students. Marcus began their career as a research assistant at the University of Wuerzburg and also completed military service in the German Federal Armed Forces.

Marcus Picard-Maureau completed their education in a chronological order. From 1984 to 1993, they attended Rheingauschule where they obtained their Abitur. Later on, they pursued a degree in Biology (Life Science) from The Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg, from 1994 to 1999, and completed their studies with a Diplom (M.Sc.) degree. Afterwards, they continued their education at the same university and earned a Ph.D. in Postgraduate Molecular Virology from 2000 to 2003.
