Flo Nusselder

Unionized Head Lifeguard at City of Kingston

Flo Nusselder began their work experience in 2018 as an Assistant Instructor and Lifeguard for the Town of Hanover, where they assisted in teaching and supervising young children. In 2019, they became an Assistant Swim Instructor at Camp Arowhon, providing swim instruction and coordinating lifeguards. In 2020, they joined the City of Kingston as a Lifeguard, teaching swimming lessons and enforcing facility rules. They later became a Head Lifeguard and then a Unionized Head Lifeguard, responsible for leading staff and supporting their development. In 2022, Flo founded their own business, Flo's Swim Academy, where they provide private swimming lessons and secured funding to support families in need. They also worked as a THRK Course Developer for To Help You Reach Knowledge, designing an equitable and accessible program for higher education. Currently, Flo is a Technical Developer for Queen's University, creating online education resources for the Psychology Commons.

Flo Nusselder completed a High School Diploma from John Diefenbaker Senior School from 2015 to 2019. Subsequently, Flo pursued a Bachelor of Arts Honours - BAH degree in Psychology from Queen's University, which is expected to be completed between 2019 and 2023.

In addition to formal education, Flo obtained various certifications. In September 2020, Flo completed the TCPS 2: CORE certification from the Government of Canada. Flo also achieved the Aquatic Supervisor certification from the Lifesaving Society Ontario in July 2020. Furthermore, Flo acquired multiple certifications from the Lifesaving Society Ontario, including National Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, Standard First Aid Instructor, National Lifeguard Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor, and Examiner - Bronze. These certifications were obtained between 2022 and 2023.
