John Leiner has a diverse range of work experience. John has worked as a Senior Note & Comment Editor at the Minnesota Journal of Law & Inequality, where they have published a forthcoming article on environmental justice and housing. John also served as a Staff Member at the same publication.

In terms of legal work, John has been an Applicant Outreach Volunteer/Volunteer Law Clerk with the Just Deeds Project at the City of Minneapolis. John has also worked as a Judicial Extern at the U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota and as a Law Clerk at the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General.

John has gained experience in housing law through their roles as a Summer Law Clerk at the National Housing Law Project and as a Volunteer Law Clerk at the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.

In addition to their legal work, John has been involved in research and education. John conducted independent research on access to legal representation in civil cases for families facing housing insecurity and on evictions in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County during their time at Davidson College. John also worked as a Spanish Tutor at the John Crosland Jr. Center for Teaching & Learning.

Furthermore, John has been a Deliberative Citizenship Initiative Fellow at Davidson College and interned with the Campus Vote Project at the Fair Elections Center. Finally, they worked as a Data Collector for the College Crisis Initiative.

John Leiner completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Hispanic Studies at Davidson College in 2021. John then went on to attend the University of Minnesota Law School, where they are pursuing a Doctor of Law degree (JD) from 2021 to 2024. In 2019, they also participated in an academic semester in Spain at Hamilton College, specifically in Madrid.
