Emerita Torres has a diverse work experience spanning various organizations. Emerita began their career in 2008 as a Graduate Teaching Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School, where they taught community organizing principles and provided mentorship to future organizers. From 2009 to 2019, they worked as a Diplomat at the U.S. Department of State, advising high-level officials, managing grant programs, and engaging in negotiations with foreign counterparts. In 2018, they became a Term Member at the Council on Foreign Relations, participating in discussions on international affairs. In 2020, they joined the Community Service Society of New York as Vice President of Policy, Research, and Advocacy, advocating for the rights of low-income New Yorkers. Additionally, they became a Senior Fellow at The Soufan Center the same year. In 2022, they became a Member of The WIE Suite.
Emerita Torres completed their Bachelor of Arts in History from New York University, where they studied from 2003 to 2007. Following that, they pursued a Master of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School from 2007 to 2009.
