John McNamara

J McNamara has a diverse range of work experience in the field of material science and renewable energy. John ("J") is currently the Vice President of Chemical Applications at Conagen, where they focus on developing sustainable materials and bio-based building blocks. Prior to this, J owned their own consulting firm, McNamara Innovation & Consulting, where they specialized in reinventing material science for groundbreaking products.

J also worked as the Director of Innovation/Technical Project Manager at Zymergen, where they led innovative projects and managed technical teams. John ("J") held the position of Senior Program Manager R&D at Brewer Science, where they led a team of chemists and application engineers to deliver polymers for electronics and engage with customers.

J has extensive experience in the renewable energy sector as well. John ("J") served as the Executive Director R&D at Agni Energy, where they led teams to develop technologies for converting biomass into carbon-neutral fuel. Additionally, they worked as the Director/Senior Director at Trillion Science, overseeing the development of electronic polymers and small molecules for the semiconductor industry.

Earlier in their career, J worked at Nano-Tex, Inc. as a Senior Scientist/Research and Innovation, focusing on inventing novel chemistries and formulations for textile coatings. John ("J") also held positions at Ciba Specialty Chemicals and Sherwin-Williams, where they synthesized novel materials and additives for coatings, plastics, and adhesives industries.

J's work experience also includes a role as a Research Chemist at Sherwin-Williams, where they developed new chemistries for low VOC automotive coatings, and a postdoctoral research appointment at Sandia National Laboratories, where they worked on polymers and organic small molecules for organic light emitting diodes.

John ("J") McNamara obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from California State University, Fresno, from 1982 to 1986. Subsequently, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Polymer Science at Case Western Reserve University between 1986 and 1989. Finally, J completed their education by earning a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from UC Santa Barbara, concluding in 1994.
