Malaz Abutarif

Vice President, Global Head Of Quantitative Clinical Pharmacology at Daiichi Sankyo

Malaz Abutarif has extensive work experience in the field of clinical pharmacology. They started their career as a Summer Research Intern at SmithKline Beecham Corporation in 1999 and 2000. They then joined Johnson & Johnson as a Research Scientist in 2002, where they were responsible for designing and conducting clinical studies and performing pharmacokinetic analysis. In 2004, they moved to Schering-Plough Research Institute as an Associate Principal Scientist and Principal Scientist, where they planned and designed optimal PK-PD strategies for clinical and preclinical studies.

In 2009, Malaz Abutarif joined Bristol-Myers Squibb as an Associate Director of Clinical Pharmacology, where they led the clinical pharmacology development of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases programs. They were later promoted to the role of Director and then Group Director, overseeing various areas including orphan indications and fibrosis.

Most recently, in 2017, Malaz Abutarif joined Daiichi Sankyo, Inc. as an Executive Director, and is currently the Vice President and Global Head of Quantitative Clinical Pharmacology. In this role, they lead a team of over 70 scientists and oversee functions such as Clinical Pharmacology, Advanced Pharmacometrics, Quantitative Systems Pharmacology, and Clinical Bioanalytical Sciences.

Additionally, Malaz Abutarif has also worked as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Long Island University from 2008 to 2011.

Malaz Abutarif has a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Jordan University of Science and Technology, which was obtained from 1992 to 1997. Lastly, Malaz completed an MBA specializing in Program and Project Management from Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University from 2003 to 2006.
