Charlene Chabata, PhD, has a background in pharmacology and has worked in various research and internship positions. Charlene is currently a Scientist I in In Vitro Pharmacology at DICE Therapeutics, where they are involved in the development of oral therapeutics for immunology-related diseases. Prior to that, they worked as a Fellow at The Biotech Institute. Charlene completed their PhD in Pharmacology at Duke University, where they focused on research in the Sullenger Lab from 2016 to 2021. Charlene also gained research experience as a Research Intern at the Drug Discovery and Development Centre (H3D) at the University of Cape Town in 2019. Additionally, they founded and served as the President of Young Scientists Rise, a project aimed at encouraging students in the Victoria Falls/Hwange area to pursue careers in the sciences. In 2014, they worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Brown University, investigating protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases. Charlene also gained experience as a Summer Research Intern at the African Institute of Biomedical Science and Technology in 2015. Finally, they volunteered as an Assistant at Victoria Falls Pharmacy in 2013, where they provided patient counseling, processed prescriptions, and manufactured various drugs.
Charlene Chabata, PhD, completed their high school education from 2006 to 2011 at Saint David's Girls High School. During this time, their studies focused on Maths, Biology, and Chemistry. Subsequently, from 2012 to 2016, Charlene pursued their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Brown University. Charlene'seducational background in these fields provides a solid foundation for their academic and professional pursuits.
