Head of Health, Safety, Security, Environment & Communities at Dominion Diamond Mines

Sheila Chernys has a diverse work experience in the fields of health, safety, environment, and regulatory affairs. Sheila currently holds the position of Head of Health, Safety, Security, Environment & Communities at Arctic Canadian Diamond Company Ltd. In this role, they provide strategic leadership and direction for various areas including health, safety, environment, security, and Indigenous community engagement.

Prior to this, Sheila gained extensive experience at Suncor. Sheila served as the Regional Director of EHS, Regulatory & Integration, overseeing safety, environment, occupational hygiene, and health for regional operating sites. Sheila also served as the Director of EHS IN SITU, leading the In Situ Business Unit's environmental, health, and safety organization.

Sheila's earlier experience includes the role of Environmental and Regulatory Affairs Manager, where they managed environmental and regulatory affairs.

Throughout their career, Sheila has demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing HSE strategies, promoting safety awareness programs, and overseeing budget responsibilities. Sheila has also had significant experience in reporting to senior executives and collaborating with various leadership teams.

Sheila Chernys has a diverse education history. In 2018, they attended Harvard Business School and completed a certificate program in the Harvard Business School Leadership Program. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Engineering Science (BESc) degree in Chemical Engineering from Western University. Sheila also holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Biological Sciences, General from the University of Ottawa. Additionally, Sheila Chernys has obtained a certification as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) from The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), although the specific time of obtaining this certification is not provided.
